Philip Mierzwa studied Western Slavic Studies at Leipzig University, specialising in Polish, Russian and Slavic Philology. His focus lay on Kashubian and Ukrainian, right from the start of his studies. He completed his doctorate at the University of Warsaw, where his research focussed on language policy and minority languages. In addition to his academic work, he works as an editor for Deutsch als Fremdsprache (German as a Foreign Language).
