Marlis Heyer grew up in a sandy region of the Mark Brandenburg, nestled between pine forests and lakes. After completing a voluntary ecological year, she studied European Ethnology and Slavic Studies in Berlin, Poznań and Warsaw, and later focussed her interest on the social-science aspects of human-environment relationships. Following research on the “return of the wolves” at Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg and researching related topics in Lusatia, she left academia and has been working for an environmental organisation since 2021.
