Nicolás Álvarez de las Asturias is a priest of the Archdiocese of Madrid. He studied Theology at the Universidad Pontificia Comillas and earned a doctorate in Canon Law at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross. He is a professor of History of Canon Law at the Faculty of Canon Law of the Ecclesiastical University of San Dámaso in Madrid and a visiting professor at the Faculties of Canon Law of the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross, the University of St. Pius X in Venice and at the Institute of Canon Law of the Catholic University of Lisbon. His research focusses on the history of medieval canon law, with an increasing interest in the history of ecclesiastical marriage discipline.
