Bernd Löhberg taught geography and Latin for over 32 years as a high school teacher in Mettmann. After retirement, he wrote a dissertation on an itinerary of the Imperium Romanum in Ancient History / Historical Geography at Freie Universität Berlin. For this he had worked through the most important medieval codices. He had acquired knowledge of all former Roman provinces through extensive and intensive travel.
