A new book series on Romance Literature and Media Pedagogy: lectura viva – Romanische Literaturen, Medien und ihre Vermittlung, edited by Roland Ißler
Literary and media works are not only key educational resources, they are also forces that shape our society. Despite this and the associated pressing questions they remain more or less disregarded by educational research. How can literature be successfully integrated into modern foreign language teaching? Which selections and formats inspire and engage learners? Can films or TV series become genuine learning resources? And how do canonical works realise their aesthetic potential without appearing to be merely compulsory reading? In short: How does reading come to life?
The new academic series lectura viva addresses these challenges. At a time when the love of reading and the motivation to learn foreign languages are under noticeable pressure, a well-founded approach to the didactics of literature and other media is more important than ever.
lectura viva is a forum for an academic and research dialogue on the teaching of Romance Literature and Media: ranging from Europe's French, Italian and Spanish literatures to the Francophone, Hispanic, and Lusophone worlds. Despite its undisputed educational relevance, the use of literature and other media has so far received little systematic empirical research. lectura viva closes this gap by providing a publication forum for monographs and theses, as well as thematic anthologies and conference proceedings, where theoretical, empirical and practice-oriented perspectives are brought together.
A scientific advisory board comprised of recognised experts in Romance Literature and subject-specific didactics ensures the quality of the contributions. The series showcases well-founded research findings and innovative teaching concepts. It is aimed at researchers, at teachers and students in higher education and also at school teachers and it can also be applied to extracurricular educational contexts.
Manuscript proposals are most welcome.
