Helmut W. Schaller is a professor emeritus of Slavic Philology and Balkan Philology at Phillips-Universität Marburg, is Chairman of the Commission for Balkan Linguistics at the International Slavic Committee and Head of the German-Bulgarian Society for the Promotion of Relations between Germany and Bulgaria.
