Hugo Dyserinck, Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c., studied Philosophy and Literary Studies in Ghent, Marburg and Paris. He taught in Erlangen and Groningen. He headed the Department of Comparative Literature at RWTH Aachen University from 1967 to 1992, and was at the same time professor at Centre Universitaire de Luxembourg. He received an honorary doctorate from Vrije Universiteit Brussel in 1989.
