Jerzy Marian Michalak is a conductor, pianist and pedagogue. He worked in Gdańsk from 1954 to 1957 as a solo répétiteur at the Baltic Opera and Philharmonic, where he made his debut in 1957 conducting Ludomir Różycki's ballet Pan Twardowski. He remained Kapellmeister in Gdańsk until 1993, but also worked at other renowned Polish opera theaters. Since 1995, Michalak has devoted himself exclusively to research on the history of music and theater culture in Gdańsk and Sopot.
