Karl-Heinz Gmehling first studied Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Education at the Technical University of Munich and worked for a longer time as a teacher in Bavaria. After a four-year assignment as a DaF teacher in Lithuania, he studied Baltic Regional Studies in Greifswald and Vilnius and then Intercultural German Studies in Bayreuth and Ústí nad Labem.
