Karlheinz Kasper was a professor for Russian and Sowjet Literature at Pädagogische Hochschule Leipzig (1969–1992), Mannheim University (1992–1993), and Leipzig University (1992–1998). He earned his doctorate in 1958 at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and his habilitation in 1967 at Jena University. In addition to editions of Bunin's, Andreyev's, Zamyatin's, Soshchenko's, Pasternak's and Bitov's works, he has published frequently on Slavic literary studies.
