Mariana Hausleitner habilitated at Freie Universität Berlin after her studies in Berlin and Bremen. She has been a visiting professor several times in Berlin, Munich, Klagenfurt and Cluj. Since the opening of the archives in the early 1990s, she has been conducting research in Ukrainian Bukovina, the Republic of Moldova and Romania on the history of ethnic minorities and minority politics in Southeastern Europe since the 19th century.
