Markus Fischer received his doctorate after studying German, Education and Protestant Theology in Tübingen and Cambridge. He taught for several years at the universities of Tübingen, Heidelberg and Bucharest, before taking up a professorship in German Literature at Cairo University. Since 2008, he has lived in Bucharest as a publicist, cultural journalist, and university lecturer.
