Pascal Bentoiu was born in Bukarest. He has studied with Mihail Jora (1945–48) then the foremost composition teacher in Rumania. The former law student (1945–47) and adept of ethnical musicology (1953–56) is a freelance composer and musicologist. He has composed operas, symphonies, piano concertos, and more. Bentoiu is the author of several books, monographs, and ethnical musicology papers.
