Péter Erdő, studied Philosophy and Theology in Esztergom and Budapest and Canon Law in Rome. Since 1988 he is a professor in the Faculty of Theology of Pazmany Peter Catholic University in Budapest. In 2000 Pope John Paul II ordained him as bishop in Rome. He is Archbishop of Esztergom and Primate of Hungary since 2003 and became cardinal priest at the end of 2003. He is a member of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signature and of the Pontifical Council for the Interpretation of Legislative Texts, among others.
