Rudolf von Raumer (1815–1876), is a germanist and an unjustly forgotten representative of his subject. As a student of Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, he was considered an excellent germanist and language historian during his lifetime. He intensively accompanied the discussion about the spelling reform in the second half of the 19th century. In 1876, new orthography rules were introduced in Bavaria and Prussia according to his suggestions. For Konrad Duden's Complete Orthographic Dictionary of the German Language, Raumer's theoretical work was groundbreaking.
