Theodor Ickler studied, among other things, German and Classical Philology and, following his doctorate and habilitation as well as positions as Lektor for Ancient Greek in Marburg, Akademischer Rat and Privatdozent in Munich, finally worked as Professor for German as a Foreign Language at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. Guest lectureships took him to New Delhi (India) and Tianjin (China). In 2001 he was awarded the German Language Prize.
