Wilhelm Schmidt studied Protestant Theology in Göttingen and Münster. He was a vicar at the Kaiserdom in Königslutter. After military service and war captivity, he worked as a pastor in Schöningen and at the Church of the Holy Cross in Bremen-Horn. As a representative of the Ev. Michaelsbruderschaft he was a council observer during the third and fourth session of the Second Vatican Council. After his retirement the author lived in South Tyrol and in the Black Forest.
