Gerd Wotjak (*1942, †2024) was a professor of Romance Linguistics and Translation Studies at the Institute for Applied Linguistics and Translation Studies at Leipzig University. He has been – with the exception of a visiting professorship at the University of Havana (1976-1980) – continuously active in the theoretical training of interpreters/translators since 1964. More than 240 articles, approx. 50 publications and three monographs on lexical meaning (especially of verbs), on general lexicological/phraseological issues, and on (translation-oriented) language comparison.
