Peter Schwartze studied Medicine in Rostock, Greifswald and Leipzig, 1957 doctorate, compulsory residency and specialist training (pediatrics) in Freiberg, from 1962 assistant at the Physiological Institute of Karl Marx University in Leipzig, 1975 lecturer in physiology, 1978 first full professor of pathological physiology, 1980 full professor of physiology and director of the Carl Ludwig Institute, 1980-1991 member of the People's Chamber (Kulturbund).
